India’s technological prowess continues to reach new heights. It is a matter of pride for all Indians that technology developed in our country is leaving its mark on the global stage today. In this sequence, DRDO conducted a successful test that not only boosted the morale of scientists but also filled every Indian heart with pride.
What is this High-Speed Rocket-Sled Test?
DRDO conducted a high-speed rocket-sled test of the escape system for fighter aircraft at a very controlled speed at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh. This test is special because it replicates actual flight conditions and verifies all the necessary elements to ensure pilot safety.
During the test, the following were successfully certified:
- The ability to jettison the canopy at the correct time
- The precise sequence of the ejection seat
- The entire aircrew recovery process

India Achieves Global Recognition
This dynamic test is highly complex, and only a few countries in the world possess the technology to perform it. Following this success, India has joined the select group of nations that possess advanced escape system testing capability within their own country. This achievement was made possible with the cooperation of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
How Was this High-Speed Test Conducted?
For this test, DRDO used a special dual-sled system, to which the forebody of the LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) was attached.
Some important points:
- Accurate speed was achieved with the help of multi-stage solid rocket motors.
- An Anthropomorphic Test Dummy withstood real pilot-like conditions and recorded data.
- Ground and onboard cameras captured the entire process.
Officers from the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Institute of Aerospace Medicine were present at the site, further enhancing its reliability.
Leaders and Scientists Offer Congratulations
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, IAF, ADA, HAL, and all partners, calling this success a “big step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India).Sharing a video , he said on X :
“Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully conducted a high-speed rocket-sled test of fighter aircraft escape system at precisely controlled velocity of 800 km/h- validating canopy severance, ejection sequencing and complete aircrew-recovery at Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh.”
DRDO Chief, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, also praised the team for this achievement and stated that this moment takes India’s indigenous defence technology to a new level.
Strong Steps on the Path to Self-Reliant India
This High-Speed Rocket-Sled Test by DRDO is not just a proof of technology; it signifies that India has taken strong and rapid steps towards self-reliance in defence technology. This will strengthen the safety of our pilots, advanced technology, and global reputation—all three—in the future.
