We all know that today’s generation is more open-minded about relationships. They want to live their lives their own way—without any fear, pressure, or the strict boundaries of society. Live-in relationships are common among them. But sometimes, circumstances arise where even two adults in love have to worry about their safety.
In one such case, the Rajasthan High Court‘s decision not only clarifies the law but also respects human emotions.
Young Couple Aged 18 and 19 Received the Court’s Support
A young couple in Kota—the girl aged 18 and the boy aged 19—decided to live together willingly. They also created a live-in agreement on October 27, 2025. However, the girl’s family opposed the live-in relationship and even threatened to kill them.
Seeing no action even after lodging a police complaint, they sought protection from the High Court. At an age when youth are weaving their life’s dreams, living in fear could break them—and this was the soul of their petition.

The State’s Argument and the High Court’s Clear Response
The state argued that since the boy was not 21 years old, he could neither marry nor should he be allowed to live-in. But the Court immediately rejected this. Justice Anoop Dhand stated in strong words: “The fundamental rights of an adult do not cease merely because the age for marriage has not been completed.”
This point feels right not just legally, but also emotionally—because relationships are formed not by age, but by understanding and consent.
Article 21: Your Life, Your Freedom
The Court reminded that Article 21 grants every person the right to life and personal liberty. And if two adults wish to live together of their own volition, no one, not even the state, has the right to stop them.
SPs Directed to Investigate and Provide Protection
The Court instructed the SPs of Banswara and Jodhpur (Rural) to:
- Investigate the couple’s statement
- Make a real assessment of the threat
- And provide immediate security if needed
This order is not just a legal procedure, but a promise of trust for those young people who often feel threatened by society and family itself.
A Victory for Youth Rights
This decision symbolizes that the law in India is becoming sensitive and humane with time. The message is clear— If you are 18, you are an adult. And the right to make your own life decisions is solely yours.
