Some days quietly become history — and today was one of them. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually unveiled Vikram-I, India’s first privately developed orbital rocket, the entire nation felt a surge of pride. It was not just the introduction of a rocket; it was the celebration of India’s belief that dreams powered by determination can reach the stars, regardless of the resources we begin with.
A Moment of National Pride and a Symbol of India’s Rising Power

During the virtual inauguration of Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, PM Modi described the Vikram-I launch as a defining moment in India’s space journey. He praised Skyroot founders Pawan Chandana and Bharath Daka, calling them “big inspirations for the youth of the country.”
“India has created its insignia in credibility, capacity, and value in the space sector,” he said, emphasising how the nation’s innovation is now winning global recognition.

From Bicycle-Borne Rocket Parts to Becoming a Global Leader
Reflecting on India’s journey, PM Modi recalled how ISRO scientists once carried rocket components on bicycles. Despite limited resources, India never limited its ambition. “From carrying rocket parts on a bicycle to developing the world’s most reliable launch vehicles, India has proven that the height of dreams is determined not by resources but by resolve,” he said.
Private Space Revolution: India’s Gen-Z Is Fueling It
During the inauguration of Vikram-I, the Prime Minister highlighted the historic reforms that opened India’s space sector to private players — including the national space policy, IN-SPACe, and wider ISRO collaboration.
Because of these reforms:
- Over 300 space startups have emerged
- Many were built by Gen-Z engineers, designers and coders
- Innovation is no longer limited to big cities
“This gave birth to a private space revolution in India,” he added.
Global Satellite Demand: A Golden Opportunity for India
PM Modi said the world is witnessing an explosion in the demand for small satellites and frequent launches — and India is perfectly positioned to lead this market.
Countries across the globe are looking to:
- Build satellites in India
- Partner with Indian space startups
- Use Indian launch services
Thanks to India’s reliability and cost-effective approach, expectations from Indian space companies are higher than ever before.
Vikram-I: Part of a Larger Innovation Wave Across India
The Prime Minister connected the growth of the space sector to India’s wider startup success. Today, India is the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, with over 1.5 lakh registered startups spread across fintech, agritech, defence-tech, health-tech, climate-tech, and deep-tech manufacturing.
He also spoke about:
- India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem
- Plans to open the nuclear sector to private participation
- Efforts to help youth access global research through “One Nation, One Subscription”
According to PM Modi, India is strengthening global supply chains and setting the stage for future innovation.
Infinity Campus: India’s Rocket Factory of the Future

Skyroot’s new 200,000 sq ft Infinity Campus is equipped to manufacture one rocket every month, providing India’s private sector a massive boost. The newly unveiled Vikram-I is designed to launch satellites into orbit and marks a major step towards full-scale commercial missions.
Skyroot earlier created history in 2022 by launching Vikram-S, India’s first privately developed rocket. With Vikram-I, India moves closer to becoming a global commercial launch hub.
“The Coming Time Belongs to India’s Youth”
PM Modi concluded with a message of confidence: “The coming time belongs to Indian youth and innovators.” He expressed hope that India will soon produce five space-tech unicorns, calling the Vikram-I unveiling a powerful beginning to India’s next era of space achievements.
