Historic Voter Turnout Reflects Rising Public Awareness

The numbers coming in from across states tell a remarkable story. According to the Election Commission of India, Assam and Puducherry have recorded their highest-ever voter turnout in Assembly elections.
Assam saw an impressive 85.38 per cent participation, while Puducherry touched an even higher 89.83 per cent. Kerala also reported a strong turnout of 78.03 per cent. These figures go beyond statistics. They reflect growing awareness, responsibility, and a deep connection between citizens and the democratic process.

Fierce Campaigning Gains Momentum in West Bengal
As polling continues in some regions, campaigning has reached its peak in others. In West Bengal, top leaders are engaging directly with voters through rallies and roadshows.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed multiple rallies, calling the elections a mission to restore the state’s past glory. He criticised the All India Trinamool Congress for alleged corruption and lack of development, while promising transparency and better governance.
In response, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed confidence in her party’s victory. She raised concerns about voter list issues and emphasised the need to protect democratic rights and unity among people.
Tamil Nadu Witnesses High Energy Political Battle
In Tamil Nadu, the election mood is equally energetic. Leaders across parties are travelling extensively, addressing rallies, and connecting with voters at every level. Senior leaders like Piyush Goyal, L. Murugan, and K. Annamalai are campaigning actively for their alliance.
At the same time, M. K. Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin, and Kanimozhi are leading efforts for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, while Edappadi K. Palaniswami and others represent the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
This intense political movement reflects how crucial these elections are for the future of the state.
Improved Voting Experience Builds Trust

The election process has also seen important improvements aimed at making voting easier and more transparent. For the first time, live webcasting was introduced across polling stations, monitored by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Dr. S. S. Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
Key voter friendly measures included:
- Candidate photographs on EVM ballot papers
- Mobile deposit facilities
- Redesigned voter slips
- Controlled number of voters per polling station
These steps made the process smoother and encouraged greater participation.
By-elections also show strong participation
Alongside the main Assembly elections, by-elections across different states also recorded encouraging turnout. In Karnataka, Bagalkot and Davanagere South saw around 68 per cent voting. Nagaland’s Koridang crossed 82 per cent, while Dharmanagar in Tripura recorded over 80 per cent turnout.
This shows that voter engagement is increasing across all levels, not just in major elections.

A Moment of Hope with Underlying Tension

High voter turnout is a strong and positive sign. It shows that people are aware, involved, and ready to shape their future.
At the same time, the intensity of campaigning and political rivalry reflects the pressure and emotional investment in these elections. Especially in states like Assam and West Bengal, elections go beyond politics; they become deeply personal for many.
Conclusion
The ongoing elections across Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu present a powerful picture of Indian democracy in action.
There is hope in the rising participation, and there is tension in the fierce political battles. Together, they create a moment that defines not just who will govern, but how strongly people believe in their right to choose.
