There are moments in the motorcycle world that make you stop scrolling and sit up straight. The launch of the BMW F 450 GS in India is one of those moments. For years, adventure riders in this country have quietly wished for something that sits between the entry-level G 310 GS and the big, expensive GS machines that most wallets cannot justify. That wish just came true, and it starts at Rs. 4.70 lakh.
This is not just another motorcycle launch. For a whole generation of Indian riders who grew up dreaming of the GS badge, this one feels personal.
A New Chapter Begins for the GS Family in India

The BMW F 450 GS officially replaces the G 310 GS as the new entry point into BMW Motorrad’s iconic GS world. It is a bigger, bolder and more capable machine in every sense. And while it carries the soul of every GS that came before it, it is built right here in India through BMW’s long-standing partnership with TVS Motor Company.
That partnership has matured beautifully over the years. The build quality, the reliability and the after-sales experience have all improved significantly since the first TVS-BMW collaboration. So when someone questions whether a TVS-assembled BMW is worth the money, the answer has genuinely never been more confident than it is today.

What Powers This Machine
The engine is where things get truly exciting. The F 450 GS is powered by a brand new 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor. It produces 48bhp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. These numbers may look modest on paper, but in real-world riding conditions, a parallel-twin delivers a smoothness and refinement that no single-cylinder engine can truly match.
The six-speed gearbox feels right at home here. The bi-directional quick shifter, a feature once reserved for superbikes, is offered as an option on the base variant and comes fitted as standard on every variant above it. That small detail tells you a lot about how seriously BMW has approached this motorcycle.
Three Variants, Three Different Riders
BMW has launched the F 450 GS in three variants, each designed with a specific kind of rider in mind.
The base variant at Rs. 4.70 lakh gives you three ride modes, Rain, Road and Enduro, along with all-LED lighting, alloy wheels and a 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth. For someone stepping into the GS world for the first time, this is already a generous package.
The Exclusive variant at Rs. 4.90 lakh adds the Enduro Pro ride mode and makes the quick shifter a standard feature. Twenty thousand rupees more for a noticeable upgrade in riding capability is a trade that makes a lot of sense.
The GS Trophy at Rs. 5.30 lakh is the one that makes your heart race. It gets tubeless wire-spoke wheels that are far more capable on loose surfaces, adjustable suspension for dialing in your preferred ride feel and the Easy Ride Clutch system that takes the stress out of slow-speed technical riding.
If you have ever wanted to point your motorcycle at a trail and just go, this is the variant that says yes without hesitation.

How It Compares to the Competition

No honest review can ignore the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, which starts at around Rs. 2.69 lakh and has won enormous love across the country. It has soul, character and a dealer network that reaches places Google Maps has not discovered yet.
But the Himalayan runs a single-cylinder engine with 40bhp, and it does not offer cornering traction control, a bi-directional quick shifter or the kind of electronic safety net that the BMW provides.
The KTM 390 Adventure, priced around Rs. 3.46 lakh, is another strong rival. It is fast, capable and has a loyal fanbase. Yet it leans more toward the sporty side and less toward the long-distance touring comfort that the F 450 GS is built around.
The BMW asks for more money than both. But what it gives in return is a twin-cylinder engine, a premium feature set and the emotional weight of that iconic GS badge. For many riders, that equation balances out quite comfortably.
Rider Technology That Actually Makes a Difference
The 6.5-inch TFT display is sharp, responsive and well-organised. Bluetooth connectivity means you can pair your phone for navigation prompts and call alerts without fumbling for your handset at a red light.
The safety technology deserves a special mention. Cornering traction control, ABS and Dynamic Brake Control work together to keep you upright when the road gets unpredictable. These are not gimmicks. On a wet mountain road or a loose gravel path, they are the difference between a story you tell at the dhaba and one you would rather forget.
The steel trellis frame, USD front fork, rear monoshock and the 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination all point to a motorcycle that was built to handle everything from city commutes to long weekend escapes.
The One Honest Concern
BMW Motorrad’s dealership presence in India is still limited to bigger cities. If you live somewhere that is a long drive from the nearest authorised service centre, ownership could get complicated. This is a genuine concern and one that BMW Motorrad India will need to address as this motorcycle reaches more riders across the country.

A Dream That Finally Has a Price Tag
The BMW F 450 GS is not cheap. But it is honest. It delivers genuine performance, thoughtful technology and the kind of riding experience that stays with you long after you park the bike. For riders who have been saving up, dreaming about that GS badge and waiting for the right moment, this might just be it.
Adventure has a new address in India, and it starts at Rs. 4.70 lakh.
