Messi’s welcome in Kolkata was nothing short of a festival. After a scheduled sponsors’ meet-and-greet in Kolkata, he is to attend  a grand tribute programme at the Salt Lake Stadium. The event will feature cultural performances, an exhibition match and a special “Master Class” session for young footballers.

Messi is also scheduled to take a lap of honour and virtually unveil a 70-foot statue dedicated to him. From Kolkata, Messi will travel to Hyderabad for an evening programme at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, which includes a short exhibition match, a football clinic and a felicitation ceremony.

The tour will then move to Mumbai, where Messi will attend a special event at the Wankhede Stadium and take part in a philanthropic fashion showcase alongside Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.

The final leg of the tour will see Messi in Delhi, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, bringing an end to a visit that has already captivated football fans across the country.
