It was not just another Friday in Assam — it was history in the making. As day broke at 4:25 am, the doors of cinema halls were opened, tears flooded in eyes, and hearts swelled with pride.

Roi Roi Binale, the much-awaited Zubeen Garg’s last film, opened to over 450 shows across 94 screens in Assam, for millions of fans, which became an emotional farewell to one of the state’s greatest cultural icons.

Zubeen’s dream project

Directed by Rajesh Bhuyan, Roi Roi Binale was more than just a movie to Zubeen Garg — it was his dream project. Speaking at the release, Bhuyan said, “This was Zubeen’s dream project. He wanted to make a film that celebrated love and music without violence. It’s emotional to finally see his dream come true.”

The film was nearly complete before Garg’s untimely death in Singapore last month. A few background score elements were finished by music composer Poran Borkatoky, who admitted, “Zubeen himself was supposed to do it. Completing it without him was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

In Roi Roi Binale, Zubeen plays a visually challenged musician — a role that feels deeply personal and symbolic. The story reflects his artistic philosophy — that love, music, and peace can heal even the most wounded hearts.

Unprecedented Celebration and Love

Every cinema hall in Assam has gone all in, dedicating its screens exclusively to this film. With shows starting as early as 4:25 am and running till midnight, theatres are packed to the brim. Tickets for an entire week sold out within hours of pre-booking.

The film’s release also spread beyond Assam, reaching 46 cities across India — including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Shillong, Kochi, and Pune — marking one of the widest Assamese film releases in history.

Even before its premiere, Roi Roi Binale had already set a record with over ₹50 lakh in pre-release business, a first for the Assamese film industry.

A Nation Paying Tribute

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore, where he went to attend the North East India Festival. The legendary singer, actor, and composer was only 52. Zubeen Garg’s sudden death left his fans devastated, sparking grief, protests, and calls for justice.

Yet, amid heartbreak, his wife Garima Saikia Garg, who co-produced the film, decided to honour his wish to release Roi Roi Binale on October 31, just as he had planned.

In a heartfelt gesture, the Assam Cabinet announced that the state’s share of GST from the film will be handed over to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, established by Zubeen himself to support underprivileged artists.

A Record-Breaking Release Like No Other

The film’s early morning shows have rewritten cinema history. In Guwahati Matrix Cinemas started the first show at 4:25 am, while in Lakhimpur, Nakshatra Cinemas started the first show at 4:35 am, with all eight shows sold out. RR Cinema in Dhemaji began its day at 4:45 am, and TNZ Cinemas in Tezpur followed at 5:00 am.

Even PVR City Centre and INOX Insignia, Guwahati, hosted an astounding 23 shows on the first day. The sheer magnitude of this release has surpassed even the early premieres of South Indian blockbusters, proving that this is not just cinema — it’s emotion turned into movement.

Fans Unite for a Cause

Zubeen Garg’s admirers are ensuring that his legacy never fades. Many have been seen voluntarily putting up posters, urging others not to record the film on mobile devices, and promoting the film as a mark of love rather than commerce.

Social media is overflowing with tributes, as fans call for Roi Roi Binale to have permanent screenings in Assam, much like Mumbai’s legendary Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge run at Maratha Mandir.
